How to Apply for an Australian Visa — Overview

1. Common Types of Australian Visas

For tourism, visiting family/friends, or short-term business activities. Stay periods are usually 3, 6, or 12 months.

  • Electronic Travel Authority — ETA (Subclass 601)
Available to citizens of certain countries; application is completed online.

  • eVisitor Visa (Subclass 651)
Similar to ETA, but also limited to specific nationalities.

  • Student Visa (Subclass 500)
For studying in Australia. Requires an offer letter from the school, financial evidence, health checks, and other documents.

  • Work / Skilled Visas & Family Visas
There are many categories depending on work skills, employer sponsorship, or family relationships.

2. Application Process

  1. Determine the correct visa type
Choose the visa based on the purpose of your trip (tourism, study, work, family visit, etc.).

  2. Create an ImmiAccount
Most visa applications are submitted online through the Australian Department of Home Affairs platform.

  3. Prepare required documents
    Typical documents include:

    • Valid passport

    • Passport-sized photo

    • Financial evidence (bank statements, savings, assets)

    • Proof of employment or student status (if applicable)

    • Travel itinerary (flight/ accommodation bookings)

    • Invitation letter or relationship documents (if visiting family or friends)

    • Additional documents depending on the visa type

  4. Pay the visa fee
Fees vary by visa category and nationality.

  5. Submit your application
Upload documents, complete the online form, and submit via ImmiAccount.

  6. Provide additional requirements if asked

    • Biometrics (fingerprints and photograph)

    • Health examinations for certain visa types or longer stays

  7. Wait for processing
Processing time varies based on visa type and individual circumstances.

  8. Receive the visa decision
If approved, visas are usually issued electronically and linked to your passport.

3. Helpful Tips

  • Choose the correct visa type to avoid delays or rejection.

  • Provide strong financial evidence to show you can cover your expenses in Australia.

  • Apply early, especially during peak seasons or if applying for a student visa.

  • Understand visa conditions, such as restrictions on work or length of stay.

  • Ensure all documents are truthful and accurate to avoid complications.

  • Some visas may require health checks or police certificates.

  • English proficiency tests (e.g., IELTS/TOEFL) may be required for student visas.

  • Visa fees are paid in Australian dollars (AUD).

Invitation letter Notes:

1. A Letter of Invitation is a proof that your paper submission and registration application are accepted by the conference committee board. It will be stated in English and may help with your visa application. However, it does not guarantee you a visa.

2. Invitation letters will only be issued once your registration and payment have been completed and it will be sent by e-mail.

3. For those who require a visa, please note that the Organizing Committee has no control over the visa application process, or the decision of the visa adjudicator in the embassy or consulate. The conference cannot be responsible for actual visa issuances. The process length varies from individuals, you’re strongly advised to start your application as soon as you can.

4. Should your application be denied,  we cannot change the decision of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, nor will we engage in discussion or correspondence with the MOFA or the Embassy on behalf of the applicant.
